Whetstone High School

About My Classroom

Rooms 202 & 204

My classroom is located on the second floor of Whetstone High School in Columbus, Ohio — Rooms 202 and 204. The first thing you probably noticed is that I have two room numbers, this is because I teach 9th grade Humanities. Humanities is a course that is designed to incorporate a Social Studies and English classroom into one big room. To accomplish this the school tore down a wall separating two rooms to create one big space for the combined class. I also teach economics as an elective for any grade level.

My Students

Most of my students are 9th grade freshmen new to Whetstone High School. Students who are taking Humanities usually have some sort of interest in Social Studies or English and would like to push themselves harder than a grade-level class. Many of you will be coming from Dominion Middle School and others may be joining us from other states or countries.

Classroom Layout

Because we have a bit of a unique layout due to the wall being taken out between two rooms you will see two main ways the classroom is laid out. The first is your standard rows and columns of desks. We will use this format for the first couple of weeks until we get into a routine. Because our classroom is much longer than a normal room this tends to work best for spacing throughout the room. The second major way you will see desks arranged is into smaller groups. We will use this periodically throughout the school year especially when we are working on group projects or our big History day project. Below you will find a link explaining a little bit more about Ohio History Day.
